Dealing with negative thoughts is critical in order for you to find peace and happiness in life. You don’t have an option as to whether negative thoughts will enter your mind on occasions, but it is optional whether they stay with you or not. If we dwell on them we can’t help but to feel bad, and these undesirable thoughts usually expand and can become damaging and harmful to us. Whether it’s a name you call yourself for making an error, or something someone else says about you, if you start to believe these negative thoughts, it will affect how you feel about yourself, causes a lack of self-worth, or can even lead to depression.
The secret is that you don’t want to let these thoughts take root and grow! The minute we sense that we are dwelling on a negative thought we must immediately take action and not let this destructive thought get a foothold. Negative thoughts rob us of seeing all of the positive things in our life, and being able to take advantage of all of these wonderful things.
If you try not to think of something, it’s the only thing you will think of, but you can replace a thought with another thought. Remember it is impossible to think of two things at the same time so if we replace the negative thoughts with positive thoughts we experience the feelings associated with positive thinking.
The good news is that there are many ways we can eliminate these negative thoughts. We can say positive affirmations, we can meditate, we can read positive books, or we can write a gratitude list of all of the good things in our lives. These are such simple actions that most of us would never think of, but remember you do have an option as to how you want to feel about your life.
