Color therapy, also known as chromotherapy, is based on the idea that different colors can stimulate different responses in people. For example, red and pink are thought to be energizers by increasing metabolism and releasing adrenalin. Or blue is considered to be a pacifier that brings peace to a worried and nervous mind.
In this article, we go through the health benefits that color therapy provides but before that, let’s see what chemotherapy is more in detail.

This complementary therapy, as mentioned above, is based on the idea that the colors evoke different responses in people. To be more precise, colors create an electrical impulse in our brain, which creates hormonal and biochemical processes in your body.
Before anything else, your color therapist takes her time to understand the cause of mental or physical issues. She also explains the roles that colors can play in your daily life and how they can impact your well-being. After that, it is time for the therapy itself. According to her diagnosis of your condition in the previous step, an appropriate color is shined on the particular area of your body. This non-invasive therapy is also done by getting you to look at a particular color.
As a complementary therapy, color therapy is not an alternative to conventional medical care.
It is normally the case in places with dark winter months that people suffer from seasonal affective disorder due to a lack of sunlight exposure. However, these days many people’s lifestyle does not allow them to spend ample time in nature and get the natural blue light.
To help people dealing with the issue mentioned above, your color therapist may use blue light therapy. There is research going on about the effectiveness of this therapy against mood disorders and anxiety. Anyway, it is thought that blue light therapy counters depression by influencing the biological clock.
Moreover, color therapy can balance appetite in people with depression. Some depressed people experience loss of appetite, while others may tend to eat more than their usual self. Color therapy can help with both conditions. For example, red and orange can cause the heart to beat a little faster and increase your appetite. Purple, gray, and purple, on the other hand, can make people feel less hungry.
Besides the sense of peacefulness and comfort that colors like blue, green, and light purple can have, color therapy and light therapy are considered effective in regulating people’s sleep patterns.
Now let’s see how chemotherapy actually helps you have a better sleep? Well, it is all about melatonin. This hormone made by pineal glans is responsible for telling your body when it is time to sleep and when it is time to wake up. Generally, in the evening, when the sun sets, your melatonin level starts to go up, preparing your body to go to sleep at night. Its level, in turn, drops when the sun rises to give a wake-up call to your body.
To regulate your sleep pattern and help you sleep easily at night, your therapist subjects you to an optimal amount of purple during midday to suppress your melatonin levels and allow you a good sleep at night.
Reports are confirming the effectiveness of light therapy in reducing swelling, decreasing inflammation, and healing wounds. Chromotherapy is especially considered effective in reducing overall recovery after medical and surgical scars.
Also, one form of color therapy known as LED light therapy helps heal people with joint and back pain, sore and or torn muscles, sprains, and arthritis.
There is another form of color therapy known as crystal bed therapy. In crystal bed therapy, your therapist lets you lie on a bed that rests on a giant copper pyramid hung in the air and a chromotherapy machine.
You don’t have to necessarily be undergoing a hard time to benefit from this type of color therapy. Indeed, crystal bed therapy breaks through negative energy and helps people to feel mentally and physically clear.
